Golborne Stories – the film
Digital Works, an organisation that makes documentaries with local communities, is to make a film called 'Golborne Stories' about Golborne Road and the surrounding neighbourhood. Work on this exciting project starts in early January and will involve local children and residents.
Pupils from Bevington School will be filming interviews with local people, and there will also be a reminiscence group for older residents, plus other activities.
The reminiscence group will have six half-day sessions on Thursday mornings at the Swinbrook Community Room, with the first on January 16th. Sessions, which will be led by local historian Maggie Tyler, will include time with the Bevington children, a visit to the local history archive at Kensington Central Library and a history walk around Golborne.
If you're interested in taking part in the reminiscence group, call Maggie on 07989 431911.
Matthew Rosenberg of Digital Works said "I lived in Golborne until recently and I know the area has a fascinating and colourful history, plus lots of characters with unique and engaging stories to tell. We'll be training Year 5 children from Bevington School in filming, sound recording and interviewing, and then we'll be gathering stories from the reminiscence group and other local people."
Digital Works made a film with children from Colville Primary School last year, 'A History of Portobello Road Market', which you can watch
here. This year, they worked with jewellery students from Kensington & Chelsea College to make a film called 'Lappings, Lemel & Sweeps', about Hatton Garden. That's available to view
here.
Funding for this project has come from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Love Golborne Ward Fund, and there'll be a major public premiere in Spring 2014.
