Diarmud Gavin with children from Middle Row Primary School

Top gardener at Middle Row Primary School

Local garden designer and TV personality Diarmuid Gavin visited Golborne's Middle Row Primary School the other day to help the children and teachers to plant some fruit trees. He was joined by our local MP, Karen Buck.

Diarmuid Gavin said: "It was good to see children, parents and teachers working together to develop an urban garden in this environment. It provides teaching beyond the classroom and lets nature be observed at a closer level. As a local, I was honoured to be asked to be a part of the planting scheme."

The six trees, donated by the International Tree Foundation (ITH), are an apple, a pear, a cherry and a Victoria Plum and they now form part of the school's mini-orchard.

RBK&C councillor James Husband, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "This was a great opportunity for the children to get involved in a project which has both educational value and is fun. I would like to thank The International Tree Foundation for their kind donation of the trees and also Diarmuid Gavin for helping them with the planting."

The school's mini orchard boasts three apple trees, one cherry tree, one pear tree and one Victoria plum.
