Latest art on Portobello Wall

The latest open-air art exhibition on the Portobello Road Wall, just opposite the Spanish School on the stretch between Cambridge Gardens and Golborne Road is a celebration of films made in the neighbourhood. This show is entitled ‘Hollywood W10/W11 and is a collaboration between the Portobello Film Festival and local author and historian Tom Vague.

The exhibition showcases movie posters from some of the best-known films that have used our neighbourhood as a location. The films represented range from The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night to Ealing comedy classic The Lavender Hill Mob and enigmatic 1970 movie Performance featuring Mick Jagger.

Interspersed among the film posters are cover illustrations from the 22 years of the Portobello Film Festival. These are by a variety of top street artists including Jamie “Gorillaz” Hewlett, Pure Evil and Dotmaster. There are also covers by legendary French graffiti artist Blek le Rat, the man of whom a certain Banksy said, “Every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek le Rat has done it as well, only 20 years earlier.”
