Golborne Forum opposes Urban Eye railway bridge plans

The Golborne Forum is opposing plans drawn up by an organisation called Urban Eye to put glass reinforced polyester cladding on the Golborne Road Railway Bridge.

Forum Chair Susie Parsons said, ‘This is a splendid Victorian iron bridge and covering it with plastic would look cheap and nasty. We would support repair and repainting of the bridge and improvements to the lighting, providing this is done in a way that is in keeping with the design of the bridge. Otherwise, we would prefer this piece of railway architecture to be left alone.

‘An alternative plan, which respects the integrity of the bridge as an iron structure and celebrates it as part of Golborne’s heritage, has been drawn up by a local artist, Toby Laurent Belson and we are urging the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to consult with people in Golborne on this design as well as on Urban Eye’s plastic plan.’

Public consultation
There is a public consultation on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th October about the plans to smarten up the Golborne Road railway bridge. The consultation is happening on a stall (11am to 4pm) on Golborne Road – drop by and express your views!
