Are you registered to vote?

The elections for London Mayor and members of the Greater London Assembly (GLA) are coming up on Thursday May 5th. You need to be registered to take part in the elections and the deadline for this is Monday 18th April. You can register to vote here.

Registered voters will be able to cast three votes, one for the Mayor, one for the GLA member for West Central Constituency, which includes the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster City Council and the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, and one for London-wide members of the London Assembly.

If you register now, you’ll also be able to vote in the referendum on whether the UK should remain in the European Union on Thursday June 23rd, although the registration deadline for that is not until Tuesday June 7th.

It’s worth noting that the registration system changed in June 2014. The new system is called ‘Individual Electoral Registration’ and allows you to register online.

Under the old system, the ‘head of household’ could register everyone who lived at their address, but now each individual is responsible for registering themselves.
