The Acklam Road Friday and Saturday food market will remain as it is for now.
Westway Trust: Portobello and Acklam development plans on hold
The Westway Trust’s plans for the land around Portobello Road and Acklam Village have been put on hold. A full
planning application was submitted to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in March, but this will not now be progressed, at least for the time being.
The development was to have included:
- a complete revamp of the Portobello Arcade, with the current layout of shops replaced by what was described as a new shopping street
- the bays under the Westway that currently include the pop-up cinema and the Acklam Village streetfood market and bar were to be replaced by new venues for arts, social and cultural activities.
- the car park opposite Acklam Village was to be the site of a new housing development comprising a block of 13 flats, categorised as affordable.
A
statement on the Trust’s website says, “We've chosen to pause progression with the Portobello scheme over the next few months to prioritise our response to the Grenfell disaster.”
Trust boss leaving
In other news from the Trust, it’s been announced that chief executive Angela McConville is to leave in October. She’s been in post since December 2013 and is now moving on to be chief executive at the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College.
