New Moroccan restaurant: Zayane

There’s a new Moroccan restaurant on Golborne Road at number 91, formerly home to popular Lebanese eatery Baalbak. Zayane offers modern Moroccan cuisine and features a North African styled interior with attractive lighting, banquette seating and Moroccan touches.

Owner Meryem Mortell is originally from Casablanca while head chef Chris Bower has formerly worked at the Ivy, so you can expect some sophisticated cuisine that blends Moroccan and modern British influences.

The a la carte menu includes starters like smoked octopus salad with merguez sausage and spiced tomato (£15.95), mains such as milk fed lamb with aubergine caponata (£24.95), and desserts like saffron poached pear with honey ice cream (£8.50).

If you’re on a budget there’s a special deal, the Evening Market Menu, available for £20 for two courses or £22.95 for three. Dishes from this menu include spiced cauliflower and almond soup with dill cream, Barbary duck confit with wild garlic and roast baby onions, and cardamom set cream with caramelized pineapple and black pepper ice cream. There’s also a daily lunch special for £10.

Brunch is available at weekends and there’s afternoon tea (£15) from 3 to 6pm with a selection of sandwiches and Moroccan biscuits, mint tea or coffee. In the evenings, you’ll be serenaded with live music from Monday to Thursday and Fridays and Saturdays feature DJ sets.
