Six of the best lunches in Golborne

Golborne Road and around has what seems like an ever-growing selection of restaurants and cafés offering lunch and here Golborne Life has picked six of the best.

Makan Café

If it's authentic Malaysian street food, served in a laidback setting, that you're after, Makan on Portobello Road under the Westway is for you. The restaurant has been a Golborne fixture since 2001 and the menu includes such delicious standards such as Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng and Char Kway Teow, dishes all helpfully explained on their online menu.

This vegetarian and vegan café's offerings include salads, vegan burgers, halloumi with salad, quiche and delicious soups such as pea and mint or red pepper and lentil soup. Specials vary on a daily basis and might include spinach and ricotta lasagne or cauliflower tortilla. Tempting homemade cakes are also available.

Maramia Café

Maramia on Golborne Road serves a selection of home-cooked Palestinian dishes plus delicious mint tea. Choices include shish tawouk, that's chicken breast marinated in garlic smoked paprika, and samaka harra which is sea bass marinated in herbs and spices. As well as the original Golborne restaurant, there's a second Maramia at 274 Portobello Road.

Panella

Serving excellent Sicilian street food at the base of Trellick Tower, Panella is a true neighbourhood favourite, a place where you'll get a warm welcome from proprietors Giuseppe and Caterina Di Matteo. Dishes on offer include carbonara, beef ragu, parmigiana and burrata caponata, all served in a relaxed ambience.

Hassan Moroccan Fish Stall

Hassan Moroccan Fish on Golborne Road occupies a couple of stall pitches, one housing the kitchen, the other the dining area, and it offers a street food experience to rival anything you'd find in Marrakech. Your menu choice is cooked right in front of you and you can choose from a wide variety of fish and seafood such sea bass, swordfish and squid, all served with generous portions of chips, rice and salad.

You'll find Hassan Moroccan Fish opposite Golborne Pharmacy at 106 Golborne Road, W10 5PS

Cockney's Traditional Pie & Mash

This most traditional of Golborne eateries serves that old London favourite, pie and mash, cooked and served by Ruth Phillips and her family. As well as locals, a steady stream of visitors from around the world visit Cockneys to sample the authentic pie and mash and the jellied eels. There's a special deal on Fridays and Saturdays - pie, mash, peas and gravy for just £7.
